Soft AP Mode

Overview

The Soft AP (Access Point) mode provides a direct Wi-Fi connection to the device, allowing for initial setup, network configuration, or troubleshooting. When active, the device broadcasts its own Wi-Fi network.

You can connect to this network using a computer or smartphone to:

  • Configure or update the device’s Wi-Fi credentials.
  • Manage device settings and pins.
  • Reboot the device.

Activating Soft AP Mode

There are two methods to activate Soft AP mode.

Method 1: Manual Activation (via Dashboard)

Use this method if the device is already online and accessible from your dashboard.

  1. Navigate to the Devices section in your dashboard.
  2. Locate the desired device and click the (More Options) menu.
  3. Select Reboot to Config from the dropdown menu.

The device will restart and enter Soft AP mode.

Method 2: Automatic Fallback

The device will automatically enter Soft AP mode if it fails to connect to a saved Wi-Fi network or cellular network after powering on.

You can identify this state by the device’s LED, which will typically flash red. Please consult your device’s specific hardware manual for details on LED status indicators.


Connecting to the Soft AP Network

  1. Once the device is in Soft AP mode, use a computer or smartphone to scan for available Wi-Fi networks.
  2. Connect to the network using the credentials detailed below.
  • SSID: PRIZM_<last 6 characters of the device ID>
  • Password: <first 10 characters of the device ID>
  • Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal

Example Credentials

For a device with the ID 35e9a1a8-f437-4db5-896b-892f8c250c84:

  • SSID: PRIZM_250c84
  • Password: 35e9a1a8-f

Configuring the Device

  1. After connecting to the device’s Soft AP network, open a web browser.
  2. Navigate to the device’s default IP address, which is (ESP32: http://192.168.71.1), (LINUX: http://192.168.71.1:8080).
  3. The device’s configuration interface will load, allowing you to update its settings.
